Mini Gallery Chad Robertson
Profoundly disturbing and provocative, Robertson's paintings are often characterized by a certain sense of seductive melancholy. Robertson employs the use of a digital video camera to film his paintings' subjects. He then sifts through the footage frame by frame searching for "the moments in between moments." Robertson says, "Subtle nuances become main events. A casual glance or aversion of one's eyes, for a fraction of a second, turns into a profound gesture suspended in time and realized in the conscience world" Robertson graduated from Otis/Parsons Art Institute in Los Angeles with a BFA. He credits his painting techniques to many influences from Lucian Freud, Francis Bacon and Eric Fischl but is just as importantly influenced by artists such as video installation artist, Bill Viola, and Brian Eno. Last year Robertson had solo exhibitions in Stockholm, Sweden, as well as Jason Lee's Niva Gallery, and sixspace in Los Angeles. He co-curated and exhibited in the show "Cruel And Unusual: an Exhibition to Benefit the West Memphis Three" at sixspace. In Febuary of this year he participated in "Modart 04", in Munich, Germany, and was represented by sixspace at the Stray Art Show in Chicago in May. He was also included in the group show "Sent" the first ever cell phone camera photography show sponsored by Motorola at sixspace in July. This summer Robertsons paintings were also featured in mini movie commercial for Motorola's new v710 cell phone.
Głęboko niepokojące i prowokujące obrazy Robertsona często charakteryzuje pewien rodzaj kuszącej melancholii. |
