Selfportrait

Jacek Pióro

Jacek Pióro. Born 1972. Photographer. Publications in many magazines.

Some pictures were taken with pinhole camera, some with Polaroid 680 SE on positive/negative Polaroid film or color Fuji peel apart film.

Why polaroids?

Perhaps it will seem trivial for you, but from all the reasons I take Polaroid photos for, I am most delighted with the fact, that my impatience is quickly fulfilled with the instant result.

The same could be said about digital photography, but the fact that Polaroid comes in a material state, gives me another reason to favour the second one. If you want to get rid of Polaroid picture you need to throw it away to the garbage what is considerably more difficult than pressing the "delete" button in modern photographic cameras. That is why such decision is rarely taken and allowes us to return later to this unsuccessful result, to find something new in it, years later.

Also the value the picture gains, being in the drawer and waiting for us to be ready for it. In case of materials I favour Polaroid because of positive-negative. It is remarkable that photographed person can be given freshly made picture and you can save negative for yourself.

And one more thing: film format and its softness.
