I draw for myself, egoistically. It would be super if children had fun of it at the same time. However, the most important is my own pleasure of drawing all those odd mice, dogs, fleas.

I had fashion episodes (few years of early youth), animal episodes (those galloping horses), urban episodes.

Now, there is a moment of my return to the childhood and my favourite illustrators: Stanny, Butenko, Wilbik, Zamecznik.

I draw for myself, egoistically. It would be super if children had fun of it at the same time. However, the most important is my own pleasure of drawing all those odd mice, dogs, fleas.

I make up a character, which I must like at least, so the story builds up itself. I coerce my friends and especially sister to write the texts.

Technique - so called my-own. What can be seen - it's obvious. What can't be seen - not worth mentioning. Result is the absolute priority. And if it's ok, nothing else matters.

Joanna Gwis:

I've always been drawing, only the topic changes from time to time

My drawers are full of books made in time off to my earning work. It gives me comfort of making books without indications of "all those who know better what customer likes".

In illustrations the most important is leeway, leeway and sense of humour. I don't like those calculated uninspiring drawings which are in the books stocked in our books stores.

That's all for now, greetings. Maybe some of you will also like my odd friends.

A Tale of a Distant Land

Book made on the given topic - "Palestine, Israel - two countries, two cultures, one peace". It was awarded with special mention in Book Project in Venice 2005 (my beloved sister wrote the text).
