Polaroids

Magdalena Wajda-Kacmajor & Maciej Kacmajor

Unfortunatelly, Polaroid has decided to stop producing Time Zero film-the only film that can be manipulated. For us it means the end of some specific form of photography that can not be replaces. The attraction of SX-70 was based on it's possibility to convert photographs into paintings. Of course there are many other Polaroid products, but they can not be manipulated and it is an essential flaw for me. To our sorrow, Polaroid company has remained silent to protests and requests of fans.

Magdalena Wajda-Kacmajor

Magdalena Wajda-Kacmajor. Born 1967.

At one time I escaped from Pomerania to Warsaw, a few years ago I took a return trip.

I inherited my passion for photography from my grandmother along with a Druh camera that I have been using till today.

I am self-taught in this field. Taking pictures allowes me to relax and also gives me a lot of pleasure, but for the most it lets me preserve the moments, faces, places and moods.

Maciej Kacmajor

Maciej Kacmajor. Born 1972.

I spent the majority of my life in the shadow of the teutonic stronghold in Malbork.

I am a self-taught photograph, I received my first camera-Smiena 8M from my parents. I started photographing consciously at the end of the nineties.

I use instatnt Polaroid materials, traditional black and white materials and colourful slides. 6x6 is my favorite format but I also shut with 4x5 camera and 35 mm.

Why Polaroids?

Magdalena Wajda-Kacmajor & Maciej Kacmajor

Firstly, but not most importantly, for its immediacy that is so different from digital photography.

Secondly, and mostly because of the fact that a developed Polaroid picture is only a semi-finished product to a conclusive work. By manipulating Time Zero material we are getting very close to the painting-the finished work in it's visual form can recall the works of the Impressionists.

Thirdly, the gotten image in its geniune form is the only copy and every moment of inattention can thwart the whole.

And finally, because using SX-70 is a lot of fun.
