Tom Bagshaw

Tom Bagshaw. I'm not the best writer in the world, especially when it comes to talking about myself.

I prefer to let my work speak for itself, the image may have a concept through which it is brought to life but it is more for the viewer to decide how to interpret that idea.

My work has always leaned towards the realistic side of illustration. My earliest memories of seeing the great masters works were always of awe in their ability to paint in almost a photographic manner and that has always stuck with me. Lately my style has shifted in an attempt to create images that capture my love of painting realistic imagery and blend them with a more graphic element.

The Realistic Side of Illustration

Tom Bagshaw

Up until a few years ago i had always been a traditional artist, firmly believing that a medium that was, to my mind, something as intangible as digital art, could never replicate what i wanted to accomplish. Even seeing the first attempts at pen and tablet technology wasn't going to change my mind.

But then came the joys of Wacom, Photoshop and most importantly to me - Painter, an application that any artist should try. As soon as i did, i was converted. It's ability to mimic real paint and it's mixing was what i had been waiting for. Now everything i create is digital - not entirely from scratch, thumbnail sketches are still plain paper and pencil but that's as far as i go with traditional media these days, although i will admit to bringing out the oils sometimes, just for fun.
