Andrew Ek
Born in Evanston, Illionis 1975, and, encouraged by my mother, I began drawing at an early age, mostly dinosaurs and animals.
Then in 1982, my father committed suicide and my drawings became much darker and I became obsessed with horror movies, literature, comics.
This led to my interest in special effects and I enrolled in the Industrial Design Technology program at the Art Institute of Pittsburgh after graduating high school.
Somewhat disappointed in the school and recieving news of more traumatic family matters, I dropped out of the program and began focusing more on developing my oil paintings.
The iconography in the body of my work are reflective of dreams or visions, of which I am interested in creating a sensual, cinematic narrative inspired by nature or my own personal environment.
The female figures are allegorical apparitions used as a vehicle to illuminate a subjective state of emotional response in the viewer.
